National Work Zone Awareness Week

The Department of Transportation is urging motorists to brake and obey work zone speed limits so the construction workers can breath just a little relief. As a major roadway project is continuing in the Pawleys Island area, Midway Fire Rescue along with the Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration is observing National Work Zone Awareness Week. We would all like to urge motorists to slow down and observe speed limits and the signs in the work zones. As the message is to watch for construction crews, please be alert to emergency scenes and responding emergency vehicles. As the weather warms, construction activities will be ramping up along with tourist traffic. Please be aware for lane changes, roadway or lane closures that will change on a daily basis as construction continues in the Pawleys Island area.

DOT urging motorists to brake, obey work zone speed limits

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The South Carolina Department of Transportation is urging motorists to hit the brakes and give road construction workers a break.

DOT is joining the Federal Highway Administration and other groups this week in observing National Work Zone Awareness Week.

Secretary of Transportation Janet Oakley is urging motorists to slow down and observe speed limits and signs in work zones. She says that, with the return of warmer weather, there will be more construction work on highways across the state in the coming months.
