Ocean Highway Fatal Accident

On Wednesday, March 1st at approximately 1800 hours, Midway Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Ocean Highway and Comfort Lane in front of Moe's Original BBQ for a reported vehicle accident with rollover in the North bound lane. Engine 811, Rescue 816, Medic 815, Battalion 83, and Chief 2 responded receiving an update from the sheriff’s department of a single vehicle rollover with injuries.

Engine 811 arrived on scene confirming the report and started stabilizing the vehicle and working on the two patients inside the vehicle. Chief 2 arrived on scene setting up Ocean highway command. Engine 811 officer requested command to add an additional medic unit to the response bringing in Medic 825 and for a medivac helicopter to respond to the scene. Battalion 83 arrived on scene and was assigned to operations. Both the driver and passenger were trapped in the vehicle and crews worked to open both driver and passenger doors with the passenger side requiring a door removal. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The crews worked to remove the door and the patient was extricated.

Both patients were transported from the scene with one being transported to Grand Strand Regional Trauma Center and the other to Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
