For the past week, Midway Fire Rescue shifts have been doing their annual Hazardous Materials Refresher. This refresher started with a classroom session discussion about responses, personnel protection equipment, meters and how to respond to hazardous materials incidents.

The next part of the week focused on the hands on section of the training. The shifts were given a scenario and the crews worked the problem by sending teams into a “hot zone” to rescue and identify the hazards. The crews also reviewed various decontamination methods and building out the Incident Command System.

The scenarios were very challenging but each shift found ways to mitigate the hazards and rescue the potential victims.

Instructors: Special Operations Chief 3 and MFF Mercer
