This month, Midway Fire Rescue crews are out at various locations all over Litchfield and Pawleys Island areas doing Fire Prevention. Midway Fire Rescue takes Fire Prevention very seriously and crews enjoy the month of October. The crews are out at local schools, daycares, churches and other facilies showing children and families what a firefighter looks like in full gear, the equipment and also the famous smoke house along with teaching fire safety. The crews enjoy getting out in the public and showing the citizens who we are and what we do everyday.

Remember: Smoke Detectors Save Lives!

  • In 2007-2011, smoke alarms sounded in half of the home fires reported to U.S. fire departments.

  • Three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

  • No smoke alarms were present in more than one-third (37%) of the home fire deaths.
