Never Forget, September 11th, 2001
It has been 13 years since the terror attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania which changed the world forever. Today, we honor and remember the citizens that were lost in the attacks. We will never forget the 343 brothers and sisters that made the supreme sacrifice. We ask that you keep the families and friends of the ones that were lost in the attacks in your prayers.
Midway Fire Rescue has a permanent, dedicated 9-11 memorial located in front of headquarters station 81. The site is dedicated to all first responders and military lost on that day.
In honor of the events of September 11th, 2001 we take a moment to remember the:
-343 Firefighters and Paramedics
-23 NYPD Officers
-37 Port Authority Police Officers
A total of 2,977 people were killed on 9-11, this number does not include the 19 hijackers/terrorists.
-246 people were killed on the four planes.
-2,606 people in New York at the World Trade Center.
-125 people at the Pentagon (55 of which were Military)
-40 people in Pennsylvania.
Over 2,000 first responders were hurt in New York City.
FDNY lost 98 vehicles.
Timeline of Attacks:
-8:46 - North Tower struck by Flight 11 (American Airlines)
-9:03 - South Tower struck by Flight 175 (United Airlines)
-9:37 - Pentagon struck by Flight 77 (American Airlines)
-9:59 - South Tower Collapses
-10:07 - Flight 93 crashes in Shanksville, Pennsylvania as passengers attempt to retake the plane from the hijackers. The plane was believed to heading to either the U.S. Capital or the White House.
-10:28- North Tower Collapses.
For 99 days the fires burned at the World Trade Center.
