Uniformed Employee of the Year
On Sunday, January 31st, Firefighter 2 Shane Kingsford and family traveled to North Myrtle Beach with Fire Chief Doug Eggiman of Midway Fire Rescue to be presented the Uniformed Employee of the Year by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Joseph J. McGarry Division.
Firefighter 2 Kingsford was nominated for this award due to his extreme dedication on and off duty, positive attitude and his numerous acts of valor with the latest one being for an off duty rescue of a civilian at the beach.
This is a prestigious award that is only given once a year. The winner is selected from numerous candidates all over the grand strand area. We are proud to have Firefighter Kingsford here at Midway Fire Rescue as he has been a huge asset and a role model for our younger firefighters.
A little about the Ancient Order of Hibernians:
“The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Fraternal Organization open to any practicing Catholic men who can trace any of their roots back to Ireland. The AOH has a history that goes back many centuries.
Horry County Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, in Myrtle Beach, SC, was formed in a small room at Shamrock's Bar and Grill in January, 1996 and has grown steadily since then. It was the first division in South Carolina. We have since grown to have eight divisions, a County Board and a State Board in South Carolina. There are more than 370 Divisions in the United States. There is also a Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in the Grand Strand area.
We participate in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity activities and promote a better understanding of the Irish heritage we so proudly have.”
